Surrogacy is an amazing gift—but it’s no small task. You're nurturing a life, attending appointments, answering lots of questions, and still managing your everyday routine. It’s a full-time job, and you absolutely deserve a little pampering. The good news? Many self-care treatments are not only safe during pregnancy, they’re actually encouraged.
Here’s your go-to guide on what’s safe, what to avoid, and how to treat yourself with confidence.
💅 Nails? Go for It—with a Few Adjustments
Manicures and pedicures are perfectly fine during pregnancy. Just be sure your salon is well-ventilated to reduce exposure to strong fumes. Opt for nail polishes labeled “3-free” or better (free from formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP), or bring your own. And skip aggressive cuticle cutting to lower your risk of infection.
💇♀️ Hair Appointments: Generally Safe
Thinking about a trim or color refresh? Most hair treatments are safe after the first trimester—especially highlights or ammonia-free dyes. Just make sure your stylist knows you’re pregnant so they can avoid harsh chemicals or strong-smelling products.
🤰 Prenatal Massage? Yes, Please.
Prenatal massage is a wonderful way to relieve tension, support circulation, and give yourself a much-needed reset. Just be sure your massage therapist is trained in prenatal care and uses pregnancy-safe oils. Steer clear of deep tissue or hot stone massages. And always listen to your body—if something doesn’t feel right, speak up.
✨ Facials: Keep It Gentle
Hydrating, soothing facials are a great way to pamper yourself. Avoid harsh exfoliants, chemical peels, strong acids, and any products containing retinoids. Since pregnancy can make your skin extra sensitive, now’s the time for calm and nurturing treatments.
🧖♀️ Saunas & Hot Tubs? Best to Skip
High heat can quickly raise your body temperature to unsafe levels, which isn’t ideal during pregnancy. Instead, enjoy a warm (not hot) bath or opt for a gentle, steam-free facial.
If you're ever unsure whether a treatment is safe during pregnancy, check with your physician first. And remember, the team at Inclusive Surrogacy is always here to support you every step of the way. 💛
