Being pregnant in the summer has its own set of challenges. The heat can be intense, your feet may feel swollen and warm, and even resting might feel like a chore. But there’s one simple remedy that offers both comfort and relief: water.
Float Your Way to Comfort
Whether you're cooling off in a local pool or relaxing in a quiet lake, floating can be incredibly soothing during pregnancy. Let the water take the weight off your body—literally. Use a pool noodle, sling float, or raft to support your bump and spine. If you're further along, try placing a noodle under your knees and gentle support under your back or belly to relieve pressure on your hips and lower back.
Belly-down floating (with your face turned safely to the side) can also provide a welcome break for your organs and lower back. Just remember to listen to your body and take breaks as needed.
Gentle Movement, Big Benefits
Swimming is one of the safest and most effective prenatal exercises. Whether you're doing light laps, water walking, or slow treading, this low-impact activity helps relieve swelling, reduce sciatic pain, and keep your joints happy. Even just floating counts as active rest—and many surrogates find they sleep better after a swim.
Swim Smart
To stay safe in the water, follow a few simple rules: never swim alone, avoid hot tubs entirely, drink plenty of water, and be cautious in lakes or other natural waters where bacteria may be present.
Whether it's a morning float or an evening swim, water can help you feel cooler, lighter, and more like yourself during your surrogacy journey. If you have any questions, the Inclusive Surrogacy Team is here to help.
