As you anticipate the meaningful moment when your intended parents finally hold their baby, it’s natural to experience many changes in your body. The early weeks of pregnancy can be the most challenging, as hormonal shifts often bring breast tenderness, morning sickness, and fatigue. The good news is that many of these symptoms ease during the second trimester, giving you more energy and plenty of positive changes to look forward to
.
The Glow
The pregnancy “glow” is real. Increased blood circulation and oil production can give your skin a radiant appearance. You may also notice changes such as facial discoloration (melasma), occasional breakouts, itchiness, or stretch marks. Keeping your skin well moisturized can help relieve dryness and discomfort. Always consult your doctor before using acne treatments or new skincare products during pregnancy.
Exercise
Staying active can boost your energy levels and help prepare your body for childbirth—while still honoring your need for extra rest. If your doctor approves, most healthy women are encouraged to aim for about two and a half hours of physical activity each week. Low-impact exercises like walking and swimming are excellent options. If you were active before pregnancy, speak with your doctor about continuing activities such as running, aerobics, or strength training. Remember to stay hydrated and stop exercising if you feel lightheaded or unwell.
Treat Yourself—You Deserve It
Pampering yourself during pregnancy isn’t just a luxury; it can be a form of self-care. Prenatal massages can help ease tension and relieve sore muscles. Be sure to choose a massage therapist certified in prenatal care and always get your doctor’s approval first. While many spa treatments are safe, avoid anything that raises your body temperature, such as saunas or mud baths. Since pregnancy can make your skin more sensitive, look for facials designed for sensitive skin—and don’t hesitate to add a little pampering to your wish list.
Stretch, Relax, and Enjoy
Yoga is a wonderful way to support both physical relaxation and mental well-being. You can practice at home with prenatal yoga videos or attend a class led by a certified instructor who can guide you through safe modifications as your pregnancy progresses. As with any exercise, check with your doctor before starting.
Luscious Locks
Thanks to pregnancy hormones, you may notice less hair shedding and fuller-looking locks. Before scheduling salon treatments like coloring or highlights, consult your doctor—many consider them safe, though some recommend waiting until after the first trimester. After delivery, increased hair shedding is common, but your hair growth typically returns to normal within about six months.
