Tips for Staying Mentally Healthy on Bedrest

ree

Bed rest is sometimes recommended in different medical situations. For example, many fertility clinics suggest surrogates take 48–72 hours of rest after an embryo transfer to help support implantation. In some cases, doctors may recommend an even longer period of rest during pregnancy, depending on medical needs.

At first, the idea of bed rest may sound appealing—catching up on social media, finishing that book you’ve been meaning to read, or enjoying some much-needed downtime. But before long, it can start to feel repetitive. To help keep things interesting, here are ten ideas to pass the time and stay positive while resting:

  • Stream Your Favorites: Explore endless shows and movies on Netflix or other streaming platforms.

  • Stay Connected: Use FaceTime, Skype, Facebook Messenger, or WhatsApp for video calls—good lighting makes conversations even better.

  • Order In Comfort: If meal prep isn’t an option, apps like DoorDash or Uber Eats bring your favorite local meals straight to you.

  • Get Lost in a Book: Read a novel, dive into audiobooks with Audible, or explore Spotify Premium’s audiobook credits.

  • Tablet Adventures: From Pinterest inspiration to fun games and educational apps, your tablet can keep you entertained.

  • Pamper Yourself: Small comforts—like skincare, cozy blankets, or soothing teas—can make rest more enjoyable.

  • Take Naps: Short naps can refresh you, just be mindful not to disrupt nighttime sleep.

  • Shop Online (Wisely): Research, compare, or create wishlists for later—without overdoing impulse buys.

No matter how you choose to spend your time, the most important thing is to prioritize comfort, relaxation, and your well-being.
